Eduards "new" Decals

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. How did you find out about this hotly debated new decals?

It was already some time ago I read on a few Face-place groups over some "strangely" acting decals that came with newer Eduard kits. At that time I did not pay so much attention (nor interest) into that. Sounded like a bunch of amateurs struggling with decals..

Oh boy so wrong I was... only now when building this Zero I got first hand experience of them..

( and I had already forgot about them when I started to add decals into the cockpit. Luckily not using PE instrument panel and would have "experienced" the horror with the roundels etc... Some luck still )

Thanks Stuart, I'm happy I found replacement decals, even had another version originally in mind (from the Eduard options). But rather this than failing with the decals.

Agreed - I don't understand why they would not give proper instructions given it's a new system, it seems rather strange to me.

Ok, so I have a question. Why are you not using a glossy surface. That may have a lot to do with how bad they are. I think that with a flat surface, the decals are "grabbing" on hard and nothing is going to help that.

Yes indeed, as I wrote in my post, I would need to try with a glossy surface as well. But I sort of lost the motivation to try it out. Perhaps also because of the fact that the carrier film reacts, aka sort of melts when decal setting solution is added.. which is also strange.

So njaah, I will stick to more traditional type of decals, for at least this build

There has been a lot of discussion on this on one of the FB groups I belong to. A couple of the YouTube video guys have discussed it as well. Some of the others that have experimented with it had similar results, some setting solutions worked better than others. I too, believe proper surface prep plays a big part of it. I'm not going to get into the whole debate over gloss vs. no need to gloss; that's just a can of stuff I dont want to open.

Agree. But isn’t crazy that people buy a product and need to experiment how to properly use it, as the maker does not bother to tell precisely how…

It's a shame that debate in FB keeps descending into what is basically a load of kids in the playground, because it's actually an interesting question. I'd love to dispense with the gloss coat but I've tried it two or three times and can't make it work - from that experience I'll be sticking with gloss.
