Putty it away! Or not?

Hi there,

Using Revell "Plasto" Putty now for many years, I figured out its time for something new. Why? Well, that Revell putty isnt that bad, but there are some better products. It takes ages until it dries and although I stirred it thouroughly, it happened that it stays soft sometimes.

So I tried out MrHobby Putty for the Seafire and was really surprised: It dries fast enough, the shape is really smooth and works perfect.

Whats your experiences? Whats your favourite putty and why?

Aside from Magic Sculp, a 2K epoxy putty that rescibes beautiful, I use Tamiya´s Basic Type putty. I have the impression it doesn´t shrink this much, if at all, when drying.

Yes, thats a good point. Revell does, and MrHobby doesnt. Looks like toothpaste.

I've been using Tamiya putty almost exclusively. You can clean it up with nail polish remover.

If you plan to do some scribing, I would suggest the use of CA glue + baby powder. It dries fast and the baby powder makes the glue less hard, just like if you used micro-balloons.

Tamiyas whit putty is really nice...until it shrinks by 50%.

No such problem with MrHobby White Putty

I use 3M Acryl Red putty. Hate that it's red, but it goes on well, feathers fantastically, and doesn't much, though it will "sink" into depressions sometimes if I thin it too much. I've had the same single tube for 3.5 years, and I've used maybe 10% of it max.
