These days I use CA for 85% of my gap filling needs. The rest I do with styrene shims or Squadron White Putty.

From large gaps to small: milliput, Tamiya putty, mr Surfacer 500, tip exx correction fluid.
Furthermore, I like to limit problems with fit by using shims, spacers and ofcourse test fitting and sanding.

I really like Mr Surfacer 500,just apply it to the seam with a toothpick,when it dries,I just smooth it out with a Q-tip and alchohol

But sometimes even on small gaps it need to be applied twice because of shrinkage when drying. Twice the time.

Ah yes, good old Mr. Surfacer. Had a few "shots" with it on several projects now, and it turned out really good.
