Something from the movies.

We just have put our Tulsa model show and contest to bed. What a show it was! This year we included the car guys and they did not disappoint. The venue that we use is an old grocery store from the 70's and it had plenty of room for our little club and guys from the surrounding states that wished to attend and compete at just half of the available room. This year we rented the entire building and had to bring in 15 to 20 extra tables. About 10 of those were taken up by the car guys. about four cars wide and 15 feet long of display area. So much so that I took over 480 pics. Ill have those ready in a few days for posting.
I didn't enter anything because I had issues with about everything that I tried to build. Then two days before the show I pulled a muscle in my back and I could barley walk let alone carry anything to the car.

The next contest is in Bethany, Oklahoma. Soonercon IPMS is another local show that we look forward to. This year their theme is having to do with the movies or television. That got me to thinking and trying to come up with some iconic films or TV shows with the small amount of kits that I have left in my stash. I mostly build in 32 and some 48 here and there with an occasional 72 scale kit thrown in for posterity. the list is obvious as to what film would pair well to which kit.
Hasegawa's P-40E "Flying Tigers", done to death. Airfix's 72 B-17G "12 O'clock High", Yeah I know. Both a great TV show from the 60's and Movie of the late 50's. WnW Fokker D. VII "Fly boys". Trumpeter 32 F-14A would either be "Top Gun" or "Final Countdown"
Since I have the HK Models B-25J I was thinking of "30 seconds over Tokyo" All of which are good films to use. However, I started thinking of doing that B-25 from an old classic and iconic black comedy that a few may have seen before. My dad took us me to see it back in 1970 thinking it was going to be a good ole action packed war movie with lots of flying. Yep, "Catch 22".
At the time I did not comprehend anything in that movie and didn't see any humor in it until they showed it on the mess decks one for movie call.

Well I have all the paint I need and I just found and bought a set of the correct decals for it. I am wondering if I can get a figure and make it look like Yosarian....

Sounds like a great time,and a great idea for the next one.FSM once did a Hollywood Group Build,some cool stuff.I used the Revell kit and built Col Hesslers Tiger from Battle of the Bulge.

I remember seeing “The Blue Max “ with my dad around that time.., probably for the same reasons in his mind... it’s funny how movies do that to us. I never truly understood “The Big Red One” until I was an infantryman myself...

I know I have read of or seen a Yossarian figure somewhere.., but probably not by that name due to copyright laws... my first suggestion would be to look at Andrea Miniatures who make many such movie related figures...

That is so cool Paul. I am hoping to do an F-14 from "Final Countdown" with the two Japanese kill markings on the nose!
