Thanks, Jim. Back in those days It was hard finding kits in Indonesia. For almost 7 years.. we had no hobby shop, no kits, supplies, no imports. Zilch. It was bleak.

The only way to get kits back then was to ask a friend to bring some if they were going to Singapore or Hong Kong.

Until a year before ('94) things were beginning to look more promising. Shops started to bloom. Kits were in quantity: Tamiya, Academy, Italeri.

Thanks, Jim. It wasnt until recently that I started programs to promote the hobby. After i left grad school, i thought about redefining my hobby. How can I add value and purpose. I want to pay my skills forward. Thats when I started the Facebook project. In the past, there was no such thing as organized tutorials, how-tos in the local language. So this is the first. my project went on to hosting shows, live workshops, and partership with hobby shops, magazines, and kit Manufacturers.

a recent workshop I organized to introduced the hobby to the public. Sponsorshop from Academy and Toy City (local toy store)


There is a huge and untapped market in Asia for the hobby. Modeling is defined as a toy. It is still percieved as a luxury, a 'toy' for the haves. And there is no such this as a modeling convention, IPMS, annual shows and contest. everything is small scale, domesticated and informal.

LoL.... great discussion thread! Ok...time to show off my 'hall of shame'. Here is a Academy Mirage III I build way back in '95 twenty years ago. All hand painted with Tamiya acrylics, everything was OOTB of course.
