The price is coming down.I grabbed one at show for $ 65.00 I saw a sale online for $ 75.00 still steep but not over a 100 like the original MSRP.I just finished one up,beautifil kit,well made,the tracks were a dream,even the motorization isn't toy-like,very well done.
Maybe it's still too high for your budget,but here is a decent listing.

I'm planning to build a few Takom WWI armor kits myself. He's just intimidated by anything not of the shake and bake variety.
