A friend asked me today, and I don't have the answer, so thought maybe someone here might know.

Does Tamiya plan to release it's Mark IV tank without a motor at some point? I'm ok with building other manufacturers WWI armor, but he will only build Tamiya right now, and would love to build one, just can't justify the price for a motor and gears he won't use.

I don´t think so. Why not just leave the motor out and build it?

I am pretty sure I have read from somewhere that Tamiya would do that, i.e. Male IV kit without an engine -> In other words would be slightly cheaper kit.. which I at least would welcome...

Though, cannot remember any longer where I read this.. or when..

Basically the price, Thomas. He's "frugal", to put it nicely. I suggested one of the already existing kits, such as Emhar, Takom, etc, but he's stuck on Tamiya.

Nothing worse than being a tamiya junkie on an airfix budget.

I'm with you there, Jim. I figure he'll probably do like most of us have, and once he's more confident and wishes to improve his skills, he'll start taking on more challenges. Right now he's enamored with Tamiya and their engineering. I get that. I was once too. I've managed to talk him into trying a little aftermarket, some mesh PE screens for intakes and some resin stowage.

My only complaints about Tamiya's 1/32 Spit Mk.IX, was the tires, (replaced with resin weighted wheels), decals, (replaced), and the stupid and annoying exhaust manifolds that needed to be mounted one at a time. Almost impossible to keep aligned.

He's also kind of budget minded.

Only reason ive got so much tamiya in my stash at the moment is i needed a few shake n bakes to get me back in the groove.
