Ok, I've been toying with the idea of building a vacuform kit lately, but honestly don't want to just dive in to something that I lose interest in. There are some kits, I'd love to do in 1/32, that sadly aren't offered any other way, (the S.M. 79 Torpedo Bomber, for example), and after looking at Tigger Models and Combat Models offerings, I've become more interested.

My question is, can anyone here suggest a decent "starter" kit in vacuform? Doesn't have to be in 1/32, although I would prefer it. I'm not stranger to scratchbuilding, I do a lot of it on my HO railroad, nor am I stranger to researching plans, or blueprints and scaling them down. I just don't want to dive into something so complicated that it ends up on the "Shelf Of Doom".

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Well I've done some but only in 1/72, so this is for sure easier than 1/32.
I've done some Whirlykits (don't try you most probably won't find those) or Airmodel (http://www.airmodel.de/index.php) VAC kits and would recommend i.e. a X-4 Bantam, thats quite an easy one. But others from Airmodel ar also worth a try I'd say.

I have limited expercience with vacform. I have completed two, have two "in the works" and a few in the stash. So my advice is a mix of experience and "general knowledge".

Firstly, Combat vacform are know as difficult builds, large scale/thin plastic. Just have a look at http://www.largescaleplanes.com/ . These builds can be made easier if the is a Robertson resing kit avaible for detail pieces.

As for a starter kit, a single engine fighter is often the way to go forward. Good brands for vacform kits are: Koster, MPM, Rareplanes, Khee Kha, and Dynavector.

Not having any experience myself I have heard that Dynavector should be among the better ones.
