I'd like to build the Essex class aircraft carrier USS Oriskany someday but I dont believe there's a ship model kit of one.

Can the USS Intrepid be used to build the Oriskany carrier? In my mind it's telling me; No.

It has been kitted by Revell several times in their 1/530 “box scale”. This last issue was in 2017. Revell issued the angle deck Essex class carrier I several guises over the years, with the biggest difference in them being the type of aircraft included.

This one came with the ASW air wing and even a small Apollo capsule to represent post recovery of the craft.

This one had a trainer type air wing of Skyhawks, Trojans, and Buckeyes IIRC

Other ships/boxings had either a Vietnam War type air wing or a late 50’s Cold War type air wing.

There are now plenty of 3-D printed upgrades available for these kits to accurately represent some ships of these kits.

Just revisited this thread since I had forgotten about my inquiry. Thank you for the responses.
