Having just finished the Mogami, I found myself on the bench pondering what’s next. For some reason, I can’t decide.

Was going to resume the Skyrocket kit but can’t find the canopy.

Thought about finishing up the Mirage but didn’t feel like doing the camouflage painting.

Started (or should I say attempted to start) the restoration of an old Scenes in a Bottle kit but needed new decals made before dipping in Easy Off bath to remove old paint and decals. I did clean the bottle pieces but scotch tape residue still there. Any ideas on how to remove it?

Did have a Mustang GT Kit I needed to get back to but was not in a mood to restart it.

I felt like doing another WW2 era ship kit but thoughts keeps coming to mind of the old Revell and Monogram ships of my youth and teen years. You know the ones... USS North Carolina, USS Wisconsin, USS Massachusetts, USS New Jersey, USS Yorktown, USS Saratoga, etc....

I recall some of the old battleship kits were not exactly 1/700 scale but slightly larger scale. Looked in scalemates but didn’t find anything smaller than 1/570 scale but slightly larger than 1/700 scale. I’m not even sure if they were 1/350 scale.

One thing I do recall they had a one piece full hull.

Time to go buy a new kit!

Tell that to the missus. She’s already tells me I don’t need more models and have enough I haven’t started yet.

Already explained to her that I need to be in the mood to build a certain subject.

The old Revell and Monogram ships were “box scale”. In other words, they were sized to fit inside the standard boxes of a particular size that the companies were using at that time. For example, Monogram released a Halsey Class Frigate (later reclassified as a Guided Missile cruiser) in approx 1/400 scale and Brooke Class Destroyer Leader (later reclassified as Guided Missile Frigate) in approx 1/300 scale, and a Chicago Class Guided Missile Cruiser in approx 1/500 scale that all fit into the same size box. All of their other ship kits, battleships, carriers, and some subs, also fit into the same size box! Needless to say there was no scale uniformity. Revell followed a similar practice, but with a larger box

Looked it google as well as eBay. I’m starting to believe they were 1/720 scale kits. I do fondly remember seeing the old Revell/Monogram kit of U.S.S. Alabama kit back in the mid to late 70s and possibly early 80s even though these kits were issued about 1969. There were other ships in that scale as well - Massachusetts, Pittsburgh (I wouldn’t mind grabbing that one), San Francisco, to name a few. They were part of the International Series kit line.

Carlos - what you’re saying is very well true. It’s very possible I’ve been thinking looking at scale all wrong.

Man, I've been there and done that! Sometimes, it helps to just sit and fiddle with something to jump start the mojo. Other times, pull out a random kit and open the box. If it still doesn't work, lather, rinse, repeat. These are what I do to try and re-start my mojo when it lags.
