Modelcrazy's 2021 build review

Since I'm not going to finish any more this year I thought I'd go ahead and sum up this years build.
Much of the year was taken up with the Akagi but I was able to get a few done in between and after. I don't know how many I completed either so let's get started.
What a year of ups and downs. My first Nats, the excitement of my brothers transplant then the worry and concern of his recovery, new job.....
Here are my complete builds of 2021.
First on the list is the Takom Yamato turret. This was a fun kit, and big too. Since this photo I added some more intrest to the deck. Unfortunately, the railing was damaged returning from Vegas. I'll fix it at some point.

Next is my 1/72 Airfix Spitfire. Another nice and fun kit. I applied aftermarket decals.

Next came the 1/350 Hasegawa Akagi. I believe all of you followed my journey from start to finish as well as my Third place trophy and Peoples Choice award at our local show. It was a nice kit with an extraordinary amount of aftermarket. It too a little over a year and was enjoyable but stressful at times.

After that I layed back with the 1/72 Heller SBC Helldiver with and aftermarket cockpit and decals.

Image

Then came the 1/72 Airfix Bf-109. I combined it with the Spit for and Adversaries set.

I went back to the modern era with a 1/72 Modelsvet Mirage IIEA. This was a beautiful kit and I enjoyed the Modelsvet kit. I would like to build more when they come out with something I'm interested in. maybe the MiG-17 or Ass-ender some day.

Image

I then dove into another new company for me. The 1/72 Arma Hobby Mk.1 Hurricane. I loved this Arma Hobby kit. The construction was streight forward and the cockpit was very detailed, although I did need to do some modification to make it fit, I'm pretty sure that was my fault. Their customer service is top notch and I look forward to buying mire kits from them in the future. Again, the decals were aftermarket.

Next was a tiny kit that I wanted to do. It was the 1/144 Revell Puma in Tiger Meet markings. Nice little kit and easer than it looks although I'll stick to kits larger than 1/144 unless they are airliners or larger. I had a few more in the stash that I'll build but that's all.

Image

I decided I better complete my Secret Santa gift from last Christmas so I returned to the 1/350 Trumpeter USS Freedom. No aftermarket this time but some of the parts and PE were insanely small, and this coming from me who installed interiors in 37 1/350 scale aircraft

Image

I then completed my 1/72 Hasegawa Ki-84 in 36 hours.

Image

Then got back to and completed the 1/72 Hasegawa MiG-27

Image

And completed my 1/72 Revell M1A1 HA. I added some stowage from Black Dogz and tried some techniques I learned from Uncle Night Shift.

Image

I then completed my 1/72 Hasegawa F-35A. Another nice kit with far more detail than usually found in 1/72 Hase kits

Image

Finally last but not least, the 1/72 Hasegawa Pz IV.

Image

Lets see.... I count fourteen! Not bad since the Akagi took so much of my time.
Next year we have plans to move to Florida so my building will be interrupted with house and job hunting and moving. But we are planning on getting a little bigger house so I should have more room for a hobby room and workout equipment. Nothing's set in stone though so I'll keep working on kits till I have to pack everything up.

That's all for this year and hope y'all have a great 2022.
Keep building kits and not just collect them.

Fantastic builds MC!! Watching the Akagi come together was a thrill and an honor. I've heard many good things on Arms kits. I get their email newsletter often. Someday, I will get one of his kits.
