I was out grocery shopping at Walmart last night and I came across Goo Gone product I’ve used it for other things but I am curious if this removes excess glue on model kits. I know the bottle says it removes glue but doesnt specify what type of glue be it wood glue, white glue, etc...
Has anyone tried it with removal of excess liquid or tube glue on model kits? If anyone has Goo Gone, I am curious to hear your results.

I have the stuff, but never tried to use it on a model. I mostly use it for removing adhesive residue off of knives that I use to open packages. The shipping sealing tape usually leaves stuff on the blade and it works well for removing that.

I've heard of people using it to remove tape residue from canopies.

If our have time for a little experiment, test on scrap part with say fingerprint imprints from the glue on a piece of part or a small amount of excess glue away from the join. Now I’m really curious.

I'm sure it would work with white glue. But tube glue and liquid cement actually melt the plastic so I'm not sure if Goo Gone would do anything for that. I've used it many times for getting tape residue off of canopies

Ok, that’s what I wanted to know.

Yeah, I don't think it would work on anything but canopy glue since that is similar enough to white glue. I also used Goo Gone for removing residue from canopies as well.

Does it harm the paint?

It is a petroleum distillate that is very similar to naphtha or basic Zippo fluid. I don't think it will harm the plastic, however, I don't think it will work on styrene solvents.
