So who has the best primer for airbrushing? Stynylrez? Humbrol? Mission Models? Testors? What's your go-to primer? I usually use Rustoleum rattle can but with winter upon us, I want something easy to use for airbrushing.

For small areas or figures I use Tamiya fine grey in the rattle can. For everything else I have started using alclad grey primer and microfiller

My Primers,

Top-1 is Mr Paints "Fine Surface Primer Black". Straight from the bottle, no mixing or thinning, ready and sprays very smoothly and nicely. No glogging, no issues, no drying the tip etc. Smells pretty bad, but all in all good stuff!

Top-2 is Mr Colors "McFinishing Surfacer 1500 Black". Almost as good as Mr Paints, but needs to be thinned of course.

Top-3 is Mission Models Primer. Must be careful about the thinning ratios, but otherwise leaves a good and smooth result. Have had some issues with the fact that it glogs easier than Top-1 and Top-2 does

Top-4, Ammo Migs "One Shot primer", which essentially is same stuff as Stynylrez, but differently branded (here in Europe?). Was my favorite primer for a long time, but I always struggled with it to dry the airbrush. And glogging.. Especially was a no go with my H&S airbrushes, I used a cheap Chinese airbrush instead. Almost odorless stuff.

I've been wanting to try the one shot primer any other tips on using it Kari?

The 1500 is my go-to primer since years. But when my actual bottle is empty I'm eager to test the MRP stuff. Big fan and user of their paints.

It sprays best when you warm up the bottle in warm water, not boiling but warm water. Now I cannot remember exactly what pressure to use in the airbrush, but if I don't totally mistake, pretty high. Again, this stuff is ready so no thinning needed.

I use Stynylrez and will never use anything else. So easy to use and self levels and fills in small scratches.

I love the Mr Hobby stuff but mostly I stick with Vallejo. Some say it's too think and tougher to thin but I use Isopropyl and a little flow improver and it's slicker than cat poop on linoleum.

It does dry slow however.
