Asking for a friend. This friend is starting a kit that is finished in anodized aluminum. He understands that it is basically a light grey with silver and an few drops of other colors. This friend has seen reference pic and a build from gregbale on FSM. These photos show some significant variation in colorand oil glazes were used. The frien will try to get in touch with gregbale tomorrow.

I told the friend I knew some master of the craft and I would query them

ChukW does a lot of color filters where he uses different oil colors dotted all over the aircraft and then he mixes the colors together to create a color variation. This technique works really well if that is what you are asking?

I'll ask my "friend"! I haven't seen any of his stuff in quite a while. Loved to read his WIPs, though. I heard back from Greg over on FSM and I'll put that info up latere. Turns out it is more of a dry brushing of the oil paint.

From what I remember reading over and over the different builds is that it is done on the first flat coat sprayed after the wash is applied and wiped off the gloss coat. This way the filter has something to attach to. Can’t remember how long you are supposed to wait before sealing it in with another coat of clear flat. Real simple process that adds some nice depth to the model. You can also add in “oil staining” with the oil filter: f/e petrol saturation on the paint from fueling up or some oil seeping from the engine from a panel line. That part done with black.

Also if the control surface is fabric you can do a gray color filter on the lower surface to add depth

If this is for the 247d’s exterior aluminum, I would suggest having your friend do a wing test as follows—bare plastic. Silver spray (MM enamel or Tamiya Silver). Let cure as recommended. Fine polish microfiber. Color coat grey acrylic. Dip wing in Future, remove and allow to cure 24 hours.
