Painting Rubber band tracks,,,

Hey guys,

I've picked up my Panzer build again after a bit of a break from it, and I've carried on doing the detail painting - including all of those road wheels! :whiteflag:

One thought that has occurred to me though is that I'm not sure how to paint the rubber band tracks.

Any tips - how do you guys go about painting them? Do I need to prime them for instance?

Cheers!

Stuart,

Your question is mine, too, but I am thinking about using a black Surfacer/primer (aerosol or liquid) as a base. Test a small section first. See how it goes.

Is it a newer kit Tamiya or the Dragon DS ? They take paint pretty well, better then the old greasy vinyl tracks.Dragon DS do not take enamels well though.

Good suggestion Bruce and that's pretty much what I was thinking.

So these will be the tracks from their early Panzer I kit.

If they are light tan, they are the DS and they take paint well without priming,in fact enamel primer might damage them,if they are different,The I really couldn’t say about them.

Nah these are black ones, Although I appreciate the help. I'll try a test on one end and see how I get on.

Thanks!

I saw a video recently on either the Mission Models website or on Facebook concerning their primer and paint on vinyl tracks. After priming and painting they were bent into all kinds of shapes and the primer did not come loose from the track. My mistake - it was tested on vinyl tires not tracks and it's a You Tube video. Should react the same on vinyl tracks.

Thanks chap - I'll take a look.

As it is I brush painted up one of the tracks today with Humbrol's number 1 enamel primer, just to see what will happen.

I'll let you know what occurs.

Actually as an aside - what colour WERE German WWII tracks? :hmm: I was thinking bare metal but I could be wrong, research needed me thinks!
