1/32 Eduard Emil Super-Build Idea

I couldn’t sleep last night so instead of just lying there frustrated, I put on some music, drank some tea, and flipped through the Eduard catalog. This can be dangerous business for a guy like me.

So, I found this:

That’s a nice-looking radio compartment.

And recently if you’ll recall, this arrived in the mail:

I’ve built the 1/48 version of that kit twice now, cowl closed. Which does seem a shame because the engine detail in that kit is really nice. But the cowl isn’t removable. It’s either ON, or OFF. Whatever.

So it got me thinking- “What am I gonna do with that nice 1/32 Emil?”

I’m going to build it with the cowl off, engine exposed. Great.

Then I got to thinking about that epic G6 which Joe did, and what a fantastic job he did with it. And it brought me around to that radio compartment.

What if I built that Emil, and went absolutely bananas with the Brassin accessories: wheels, cockpit, undercarriage stuff if available, *and* the radio compartment? And what-if I somehow made the radio compartment VISIBLE? Like, cut out one side of the fuselage, so you could peer in there, is something like that doable? Or have I completely lost my mind?

Sometimes it's fun (and maddening) to show everything off.

Go here. This is cool. It may not be your cup of tea but if you read through this there are a ton of intriguing as all hell ideas about building and painting the interior design of the aircraft. I know it is an F variant but close enough; I dig the F design too don’t you?

Anyway go here and then come back and tell us all what you think okay?

No worries.

I hope it was useful.

Perhaps?

Bruce,

Oh it’s useful, absolutely! I haven’t seen a model like that one before. I have to say- it’s pretty damn stellar. Though I did find myself wondering if the builder was pining away for something more to paint. However- it lacks nothing whilst lacking “skin”.

What I would like is to combine the aesthetic of the two, know what I mean?

So, you know how I was gonna basically just cut a window in the fuselage? Well, now I’m thinking cut the “skin” away but keep the skeleton there...

That thread is a really interesting rabbit hole. I’m going to keep reading it and going over the photographs.

I do have one bit of bad news though, I think a lot of that stuff I saw in the catalog might be discontinued. Didn’t see it on Eduard’s webstore. Still, there probably are other options.

Anyway, that build is fascinating and I appreciate your sharing it with me. Such an interesting thing to see, that. And fascinating too.

Kari,

I’m giving it a lot of serious thought. I think it’d be a whole lot of fun, and if I pulled it off right, the end result would be amazing.

It’s tempting!

Edit: nah, it’s actually not available there either. Haven’t had enough coffee today.
