Working my way through applying these various dot filters. I like oil paints for filters, they give me the kind of subtle weathering effects that I’m shooting for. I’m also working with subtle streaking. In the past I’ve had a tendency to be very heavy handed with that, and I’m trying to bring more discipline into it these days.

Anyway, here’s some shots showing how the filtering has gone so far! As always— thanks for looking.

One more shot after taking some time to let the oil paints mellow out some.

I like this effect. There is every bit as much modulation in tones as what I would generally get with black basing, but in my opinion the weathering here looks much more disciplined, in-scale (as Lyle pointed out), and less stark as it tends to when I personally black base things. This is much much better. I wanted to improve in this department and I believe that I have.

I was quite busy tail end of the week, so I decided I’d let the oils mellow out for a few days. I’m really liking the overall gestalt that’s happening here.

I think next I’ll add a bit of gentle streaking around the cupola, and down the sides of the turret. And I’ll put a a nice oil paint filter with those same umbers I got this effect with, and white, on all the wheels. After that I’m going to add the pigments, and attach the wheels. Then I’ll get the tracks done (I’m using the rubber band tracks that the kit came with), and then the tools. After that it’ll be finishing touches I reckon.

Alright friends! We’ve got wheels, and sand pigments!

Next up I’ll do the tracks, and the tools, and the other little sundries. After that, likely just a tad bit more dry brushing here and there, mostly over minuscule details like random bolt heads and things, and then I guess it’ll be done. I can actually see the finish line!!
