I placed with a gold ribbon but to my thinking it should have been silver. But what you miss on the carousel you make up for on the merry go round.

The exhaust backings are in. To prevent the dreaded “falling inside the sealed fuselage after a bit too much pressure syndrome”, I added some more sprue supports:

The sealing up the wings, at this stage the wing/fuselage joins are not glued. The lower wing/cowling/fuselage joins seem good and that wierd angular join Eduard puts in will be okay. The oil cooler went in well:

I added some drilled out styrene to the MG cowling so the MG131 barrels can be inserted iinto a positive slot. MG cowling attached and a swipe of a sanding stick should fix that starboard side overhang:

The PE storage hatch went on and the cockpit sides were repainted. A little too much pressure applied to the fuselage caused the cockpit to dislodge and drop about 0.1mm at the rear and with it all sealed up I will remain so. Oh well, the joy of modelling:

Kent,

I saw your update last night, mentally replied... this was after watching an episode of “Westworld” and my brains felt scrambled. Better late than never, however, and apologies.

First, congratulations on the win with the Airfix 1/48 Mustang. This build simply because of its kit and subject are so near and dear to me anyway that I am very glad your paint and finishing were recognized as well! Excited! Congratulations, bud.

I first saw usage of the spreader sprue on a 1/48 Trimaster Anton and both the 1/48 P-47 and 1/32 P-51 that I am building have benefited from building a platform as well as a brace to keep the wing dihedral and minimize the wing root gap.

I was right with you when you added those sprues and my heart skipped a beat when you wrote that the cockpit shifted. I understand that feeling all too well, Kent. I struggle with it; I wrestle with it, but, but, sincerely what you wrote next, that made sense... sense beyond “This is only a model,” “Good enough,” or whatever else we might choose to tell ourselves.

One of the great strengths of being a modeler is learning from what stresses and tolerances are out of our control; we plan and make allowances, but ultimately we do have gaps, scars, marks and signs of our work (at least I know I do) because in my opinion the only pure styrene is the untouched kind and we as crafty makers of models (at least from my experience) have to cut, sand and shape plastic or resin or brass or steel to assemble the kit.

And your work looks amazing.

I love that shape you’re talking about Carlos. Almost as much as I love the shape of Mrs. Kenny X LOL. There’s just something so sexy and sinister like you say -and that almost makes it even sexier. That airframe is just beautiful.

I appreciate your words of encouragement. I may have been a bit premature with writing off the cockpit as stable. It appears the entire floor/back assembly has come adrift and dropped. It will now need some remedial work. The sidewalls are firmly attached so I will drill through from underneath and gingerly push the floor back into position and hit it with some more CA.
