I don’t know what it is about the way the RAF did that camo, but I prefer the way it looks on their aircraft over ours. I think it has a lot to do with the RAF roundel and the way it looks on there with that camo. From an artistic perspective. It just totally works. Like, when I think of the RAF, one word comes to mind: “Class”. And a big part of that is the way they adorned their aircraft.

Agreed! The FAA had some quite good schemes - always an option if you fancy something different.

I feel I wandered onto the deck of an aircraft carrier in full color and sounds and smells even are bringing into sharp focus the days waiting and how tough these fighters are. We need to bring something out from these models... or back from them. I see it in the creases and lines of the RAF Pilot’s face; a real toughness, and strength. Thanks for posting, Carlos. No problem Bruce - I often feel like the FAA's (and the Royal Navy's) contribution to the war in the Pacific is overlooked. Granted their presence was small when compered to the USN and USMC, but they were there, and as always made the best of what they had. The FAA has always punched above it's weight and come out on top - Just look at the Falklands.

However - back to the point of the thread, As much as I love USN birds (and I do), from a modelling interest point of view the FAA (and the French) does give you the option of doing some well known aircraft (Wildcat, Hellcat, Avenger, Corsair etc.) in some different schemes. The FAA Wildcats were even used in the North African Campaign in desert camo.

As an aside - Did you know the USN flew Hellcats over France in 1944 in support of operation Dragoon?

Stuart, a discussion of the naval war in the Pacific, or the Med, or Indian Ocean, could each take up their own long thread. Commonwealth Lead Lease naval aircraft could fill another thread. And yes, they do offer good looking lesser seen options compared to the more famous USN/USMC comrades in arms.

It’s a tough decision. On the one hand I really like what’s called out in the kit marking options, but on the other hand, I really like all the variants, especially the RAF variant with the green and gray camouflage -y’all know I’m terribly partial to that.

Well, what you do see is buy two kits and do both

I have considered that! It’s really the only good solution to a conundrum like this.
