Trimaster 1/48 Focke-Wulf FW 190 D-9

I still am waiting on the decals and some other sundries before I go jump back into "work in progress" with this kit, but I did spend part of the evening shaping the resin cockpit to fit inside the fuselage as well as temping the fuselage together with tape and Blu-Tak.

The classic shape of a Dora! I got the same engine cover with the fuselage guns, only in 1/32 scale. But this project got stalled. Not only because of the mediocre fit of this resin replacement...

I agree on rolling on into the post-PB time. I already exchanged my Me 163 walkaround pictures here on SPAM. First little steps!

Thomas, so happy to read your words today! I was thinking about fitting the engine cowling next as well. MDC designed their resin version to fit the Tamiya kit. I was wondering what the result will be on top of the Trimaster. So far, the Trimaster plastic seems to be very strong, regardless of its age. I was planning to modify the wheel wells next by chopping out the center of the existing part. Small moves on my part, too. I was thinking I need to temp in the resin firewall and engine plug afterwards. I trimmed off a lot of resin from the cockpit, basically the entire stump from the pour, as well as thinned out both sides of the cockpit tub. I am familiar with resin part surgery after doing a few garage kits, but the integration of resin aftermarket is going to be a challenge. Even removing the pre-existing cockpit tabs took several passes with a razor saw. Trimaster plastic is tough.

Congratulations on updating your first series of photos online. The quantity of images, steps required to download, followed by another upload are appreciated. I sympathize with all who are following the path towards rebuilding the resources of the forum. Most important, I thank you for your commitment to the research component of SPA Modeler. You are an ace!

Hey Bruce... have you started on your Trimaster Dora??? I hope you document your build thoroughly. As a fellow builder with an eye out for future projects, I especially value the preliminaries... opening the box, checking out the sprues, what the aftermarket accessories look like out of the package. Curious to see the comparison between the MDC and Tamiya gun cowling. The Eagle Editions 1/32 gun cowling was a poor fit so I ended up modifying the kit cowling to reduce the exaggerated "cleavage" so I guess that can be an option for you.

I can see where the Dora gets its' speed from. That prop would move a LOT of air. Coupled with a powerful engine and that great design... what a machine!

John, I will definitely improve and add photos! I was trying a soft start approach which is why I am up here in general discussion when I should be joining your Dora on the field of Work In Progress.

MDC is without a doubt some great resin. You light the way on your build. You are that candle to follow in the dark. No exaggeration.

Stik, likewise you are the one I will follow into battle. Particularly with choices. The choice of this kit with its tough plastic (seriously wow how will I cut this up?) and the online Trimaster bashing when the kits are DML non white metal casting repops... get in the way of the good times.

I am doing 30 minute sessions on this build. A lot of new paint is rolling from a warehouse in the wastelands... maybe white Tamiya primer but I have Mr Hobby blue cans rolling my way, all new colors and ideas to represent this Circus Beast!!

Good idea... not about following me into battle... but form your own opinions on any kit. We all have different tastes and preferences in our subject matter.
