Bang for buck... fermis mentioned a dollars per hours at the bench ratio. Fair enough, but I'd amend that to read "ENJOYABLE" hours at the bench. 12 hours sanding out ill-fitting assemblies doesn't do it for me. I'd certainly put new-tool Airfix kits on that bang for the buck list.

Also (don't laugh at me) I'd mention the newer kits from Special Hobby, Azur, Sword. I build mostly in 1/72, they tackle non-mainstream subjects, generally arrive boxed up with resin, PE and very good decals, for $25-ish?? A good deal in my books.

Lately for me it's the Revell of Germany kits. Great kits when it comes to fit and detail. And at a decent price too!
