Yes, I’m actually really trying just to visualize that rather slim view of the seat and top half of the sides. I think the two gauges on either side of the nonexistent dashboard may be interesting simply to build, but won’t really be visible. I think model builders become conditioned to build out a full cockpit as a way to improve their skills with tiny assemblies. Let’s face it. The kit could be well built in a day or two of sit downs at a proper bench. I don’t blame my tools but using a kitchen table has increased my time because I have to set up then take down and clean the area. Ditto air brushing on a patio in wet and cold weather.

Yes. Modeling under limiting conditions certainly slows down the pace of a build. Then modifying a kit from what comes in the box adds additional time penalties. But what's the rush?

You're absolutely right. there's really no rush. I think there's just the external idea that the process should come more quickly but each step has been a bit of a reaquiring process of skills. I'm also missing my sandpaper. I have high grit only. On one hand that's a bit of a pain because I'm used to shaping the plastic the way you would sand and shape wood, but here I'm trying to use a very sharp knife to whittle, which reminds me of cub scouts when we had to carve an Indian totem pole; it takes a certain specific set of skills to pull it off.

If you have a few extra bucks, check out the cosmetics area of your local store and look at the emery boards & files in the nail care aisle. They come in various grits, are fairly inexpensive, and work as a suitable replacement for hobby sandpaper/sanding sticks. I’m all about improvisation like that…

Yeah, the best sanding sticks I've found were at Sally Beauty Supply.

Thank you so much for the idea! I really will check into this in the future. Right now I'm a but too skint to do this, but I'm planning to see my buddy who owns a contracting business and he will help me out with freebie paper. It's just finding time. When he was ready, I was sick. Now I'm waiting to get well enough to visit with him and pick up odds and ends that he has. I used up the majority on a turntable restoration earlier in the year and I didn't restock. Sadly. I'm currently drawing but on this project I am grateful for the Copper State Models kit released earlier this year. I'm seeing the details and plugging in the areas that didn't quite make sense. There's actually a second component to the seat!
This is not present in the current design; I think it will be an easy add.
No jinx no jinx fingers crossed; every time I write "easy" I know I'm not building a scale model.

I made a paper template and have it tacked in with white glue. This definitely is a detail that will show. It also helps explain how a pilot would enter the cockpit and provide a bit of back rest for him as well.
Next, I’ll use the template to cut a thin piece of plastic card.
