I have not used “Van Gogh” brand oils. I was wondering if real engine oil on cured lacquer would eat through the finish. I am sure some modeler somewhere has done this.

I vaguely remember doing that as a youngster... used dirty motor oil over the engine cylinders that were painted with either Testors or Pactra metallic enamel.... If I remember right, it did not harm them, (those old enamels are tougher than tooth enamel) but it did eventually migrate to the lower portions, as motor oil will do...
