Tamiya basic liquid surface primer has superb adhesion to metal, glass, and other hard slick surfaces. I don’t know why they would have to come up with this stuff...

Mate it has been around for a longtime. I got it as when I first started using PE, I was of the mindset “Metal primer for metal, normal primer for plastic” and didn’t really know any better. So I got three or four cans and now, although I know better, it has become routine to use it on metals. I also still have two full cans to get through!

I really like the cockpit color. I realize you are in a subject area you know well, but I feel some folks get scale effect (are we allowed to use this any more or is it a bad expression?) but what else is it but the effect of light on surface on a smaller scale?

Well, for what it’s worth, that color jibes well with every pertinent cockpit shot I have seen. It’s the slightly cold toned bluish grey with a very reductive aspect to it.

It is the now OOP Aeromaster Warbirds RLM66. I picked up a couple of boxes of this and other OOP colours from the guy on eBay about a year ago. The paints were critically acclaimed as being accurate in scale and colour. I like them because they are enamels and I am used to spraying enamels and they really do look good to my Mark 1 eyeball. I have made some progress on the cockpit and will post shortly.

I like enamels, too, and I dig the Gunze lacquer base paints—the formula reminds me of auto body paints—very beautiful and strong. I made a note to check out what you are using... thanks mucho mucho for the intel.

School holidays and spending time with the kids (away from their devices) lowers my work rate. I am slowly getting the cockpit together. I am as yet undecided whether I will use the PE or resin and d cal version of the IP. I did make the PE one up this morning and it does look good bit I want to see how the decal performs. I have added some PE bits and bobs. It is the first time I have opted for PE belts in quite a while, having been put off by the problems associated older style of belt. The BRASSIN set contains the new steel belts and I am impressed. They are far easier to remove, place and seem mostly to retain their painted aspects. There is some touch up needed but that may be me. In 48 scale at least, they look quite good but I think I will stay with textile from RB or HGW for the big scale whenever I get back there. Anyway, some photos:

The cockpit looks great! I, too, am not a big fan of PE seat belts. Those STEEL ones look better but prefer the fabric stuff, like you.

Agreed. It is very hard to get PE to drape properly and look natural. Harness hardware usually has some heft to it, while the straps are quite flexible in spite of their thickness. At least on all the stuff that I’ve come across. Way more so than car seatbelts that we are all familiar with...

I’m digging that cockpit, and I especially like what you did with the resin set you showed there. You picked out all those details very well! Kind of makes me wish I’d ordered something like that for my G2. Ah well LOL
